Happy Labor Day weekend as we gather to worship Jesus this morning. We’ll turn to Jonah 1 for the third sermon in the series “Salvation Comes From The Lord.” The title is “A Rebellious Believer and a Merciful Storm.” God will do what is necessary to bring a rebellious believer back to Himself. If you weren’t here last Sunday, please take time to listen to the sermon. I feel very strongly that some of what I said is crucial to move forward as a believer in these days. The main point I want you to hear is about the care of your soul. Nathan and I care very much about you! And we want you to be all that God has called you to be!
Saturday, September 17 is the Community Carnival! It is from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. as part of Tongie Days. We will be on Delaware St, between 3rd and 4th Street (the same location as last year.) This is the most significant of all things we do to engage and bless the community. We are the most visible on this day.
We want to obey Jesus’ command to “love thy neighbor” by serving and blessing our community. The ultimate goal is not to get the world into the church, although we pray that would happen. The goal is the get the church into the world. In so doing, we let our “light shine before men in such a way that they may see (our) good works, and glorify (our) Father in heaven.” It also broadcasts to our community that we are an active church. If people are looking for a church, this puts us on their radar screen.
There is a sign-up board out in the foyer to staff the carnival games. Even if you don’t staff a game, we will need help setting up. We will especially need help tearing down at 1 p.m. Plus, we need people to mingle, hang around, and troubleshoot. It would be great to try to strike up a gospel conversation. BE SURE TO WEAR YOUR GREEN “WEST HAVEN LOVES TONGANOXIE” shirt. I would LOVE to see every member of West Haven there at some point!
There is still time to sign up for our Growth Track to investigate joining West Haven. We have six adults and four children signed up as of today. We’ll eat lunch after church next Sunday. You’ll hear from me, Nathan, and some of our church leaders to give you an overview of West Haven. We hope to see you next Sunday!
